Baby Updates April 23, 2006--A week or two ago Traci tried giving the baby rice cereal for the first time. I had no idea what that meant and expected to come home from work and see Paige with her hand in a box of Chex or something. Actually, baby rice cereal is like 80 percent baby formula and then a little bit of rice powder mixed in. The big difference is that you serve it with a spoon instead of out of a bottle. After Traci's first attempt, she called me at work, laughing and laughing. I guess we take for granted knowing how eat. Traci said that Paige would just stare at her each time she lifted the spoon to her mouth, so Traci would open the baby's mouth and put the food in. Paige would just continue to stare at her until Traci closed her mouth as well. It's rough being a baby. I was at the dentist on Wednesday having my teeth cleaned. The hygienist came in, tipped the chair back, put a bib around me and told me to open my mouth. She'd poke at me with that sharp little thing for a while and then tell me when I could close my mouth again. It's rough being a grownup. Paige has recently learned how to wave. But not just any wave - no, it's full-on parade waving. I'm not sure if she knows that she's doing it because the waving always comes at random times and at nothing in particular. Yesterday she was waving with both hands, but crying at the same time. She has also discovered her feet. At different times throughout the day she'll remember that she has them, which makes her very happy because she has figured out to get them into her mouth. My
favorite recent development, though, is definitely her laughing. A
couple of weeks ago she started doing a really funny smoker's laugh.
Imagine Patti and Selma on the Simpsons. She's moved on to a higher
pitched laugh, but I still can't get enough of it. When she laughs
her entire body moves - legs flail, arms wave, head bobs. Love it.
